Recreation Clubs aren’t always about athletics

The RMC Foundation supports a variety of Recreational Clubs at the Colleges.  From Sport Parachuting to Debate Club the Recreational Clubs are meant to offer Officer Cadets a much deserved break from their studies to enhance their time here at the Colleges while building leadership skills, critical planning skills, and fostering new friendships.

Because of your support, we recently sent members of the Bilingualism Club on a special trip to Quebec City.  Officer Cadet 28924 Hylong Nguyen shared her experience below:

The Bilingualism Club is a way for me to practice my French in a fun environment outside of SOLET. Each week, we meet on Thursday to play games and converse in French. Before Reading Week, there was a special trip to Quebec City, Quebec. It was an amazing opportunity and lots of fun. The trip was meant to immerse us in the French language and culture. This was something we would not get in Kingston.

The main highlight of the trip was the Quebec Winter Carnival. There were many activities, artfully crafted ice sculptures, and even axe throwing. There were specially made drinks like the maple flavoured coffee served in a souvenir mug. To finish it off, at night there was a parade with flames, tap dancing and heavy metal. Besides this, we went to see other highlights of Quebec City from the Chateau Frontenac to the mural depicting the important figures of Quebec. We also went down a toboggan slide that has been active since 1884.

The trip was very informative of Quebec history thanks to our chaperones’ vast amount of knowledge on the subject. For food, we had some Quebec poutine of course and for dinner we ate at a restaurant that served amazing food. Overall, the trip was a great time that I would love to do something like this again next year. 28924 Hylong Nguyen
